The encaustic process when used in photography refers to the application of a combination of beeswax and damar resin over a photographic image. This wax can be pigmented with color or remain it's naturally translucent white/cream color, giving the image an interesting surface quality. Each piece is unique in luster, density, brush strokes and surface variations.
The use of wax to create and preserve art has been around for centuries. Encaustic painting was practiced by Greek artists in the 5th century B.C. and was revived briefly in the 1700's. I love being a part of this history, combining my original images with this ancient process.
My original photographs are mounted on 1.5"D cradled wooden panels. Each piece is unique because of variations in brush strokes, wax density and translucence. Signed on the back and ready to hang.
